FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
We realize that many questions might arise when considering to join this event so we’ve tried our best to answer everything you might need to know! After reviewing the questions below should you still have more questions, feel free to contact us.
1.0 What is it?
This is no ordinary race. Participants need cardio to out run the creatures and beings wandering
Pittsburg’s Lincoln Park. The more adrenaline the better. This will be an adventure not soon forgotten.
Participants must cross the finish line with at least one health flag.
2.0 When and Where?
The race will be held on Saturday, October 28th at 11:00am.
The race will be located around and through Lincoln Park. All participants will check in at the Don Gutteridge Sports Complex at the Kelly Concession Pavilion.
3.0 How does it work?
Each registered participant will receive a belt much like a flag football belt. Attached to each belt will
be three (3) life flags; each belt is one (1) life. You will need to cross the finish line with at least one flag!
Unidentified areas throughout the course will be invaded with Zombies and Creatures of the
like who will try to take your flags.
Participants are NOT allowed to take other participant flags or pick up any flags
from the ground. Participants will never have more than three (3) flags total.
4.0 How do I wear the flags?
Flags will be worn on the belt provided for each participant. A single flag will be worn on each hip and
one in the back. Participants are NOT permitted to tuck their flags into clothing or shorten the flags or
they will be disqualified. All flags are to hang freely and visible at ALL times. Belts must be
worn around the waist.
5.0 Will the Zombies or Creatures hurt me?
No, we have specially trained our Zombies and creatures. They do not want you, they only want
your flags. The good news is that a single Zombie will not take all of your flags in a sole
Zombie Zone. Many of your encounters are those of slow moving Zombies and Creatures.
Although, you may run into those that block your way and you’ll need to maneuver
your way around. And don’t say we didn’t warn you when you run into fast Zombies who
will chase you if you enter their territory.
6.0 How old do you have to be?
Children under the age of 12 years old are allowed to run in the Zombie Survival 5K, BUT they
must be accompanied the entire route, by a registered participant over the age of 18 years old. Parents,
guardians or friends not registered for the race, will not be able to run or walk the route with the child.
Participants under the age of 18 years old, will need to have their waiver signed by a parent or legal
guardian to be allowed to participate.
7.0 Where and when do I pick up my race package?
Race packets will be available for pick up on Friday, October 27th from Noon until 5:00pm at
Lincoln Center, 710 W. 9th Street, Pittsburg, KS.
Race packets will also be available the day of the event onsite at the Kelly Concession Pavilion.
8.0 How early should I arrive?
We encourage participants to arrive early so that they can find parking as well as check in prior to race time.
Participants are encouraged to car pool when possible.
9.0 Who/what does this run support?
Proceeds will help continue efforts to improve Schlanger Park including accessibility
for disabled children and adults. Through your participation in this event, our efforts
can continue to provide all children the opportunity to thrive and grow through play.
Have you seen the improvement made to Schlanger recently? We just added four Pickleball courts and one full size basketball court, all which will be handicap accessible.
10.0 What if the Zombies take all my flags?
Zombie nurses will be near the finish line. A Zombie nurse may help you win a life back before you cross the finish line.
11.0 Will there be food?
Yes! You’ll be drained and fatigued after running from the Zombies and Creatures.
Water and snacks will be available for all runners at the completion of their run.
12.0 Can I defend myself against Zombies?
Unfortunately, NO. No one is allowed to touch any Zombies or Creatures! You must be
calculating and strategic in order to escape! We recommend running with allies to improve
your odds of surviving.
13.0 Can I race with a team?
Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it. Besides how else will you know what friends you can trust
if there is ever a Zombie Apocalypse. Teams are not awarded prizes but you’ll have bragging rights
knowing you survived!
14.0 What if I get hurt?
The race director, course officials and first aid will be onsite for the duration of the event.
If a participant gets hurt, we will work quickly to fix you up. We will also request to have Crawford County EMS services on site as well.
15.0 How many people will be in each wave?
The event will be capped at 150 participants.
The race will start at 11:00am and runners will be released 20-40 at a time about every
5-10 minutes apart.
16.0 What do I get if I survive?
All participants will receive a rather unique finishers medal!
The first 75 to register for this event will also receive a special event t-shirt!
17.0 Can I be a Zombie?
We have a great group of volunteers students from the Pittsburg High School and Pittsburg State
University that will once again be our Zombies! However, if you are interested in volunteering on
the day of the event, please contact the race coordinator at PPRD@pittks.org.
18.0 Can I bring my dog or stroller?
We love both pets and babies, but unfortunately we cannot allow them to be on the course.
The course through Lincoln Park may not be not stroller friendly at all times. Plus the Zombies are scary!
